"Deviation of an electron beam observed in the particle accelerator ESRF/synchrotron in Grenoble and caused by the Amatrice, Italy earthquake. The figure represents variation of the electron beam frequency. We observe a first event at 1:38 UTC (main shock) and a second at 2:35 UTC (M5.5 aftershock). While passing through the accelerator, seismic waves slightly modify the size of the 844m-wide ring in which electrons are travelling. As a consequence, the frequency of the electrons beams has to be ajusted. A variation of 1 Hz of the beam frequency corresponds to a change of 2 micrometers of the circonference of the ring.
