In 1989 my house was 6 miles from the epicenter of the Loma Prieta earthquake in the Santa Cruz mountains in California.  This earthquake was the largest I felt since that time.  I estimate that it shook for approximately 30 seconds.  My house in Panama is built well with steel reinforcements in the foundation.  But, the house shook very noticeably.  I did not notice any sound related to the quake.  There was another quake in the same area about a week ago.  The house shook then, too. But it was nowhere as large as the one about 30 minutes ago.  I live rurally, so I can see no other damage around my home.  My dogs noticed it also.  They wanted to be close to me.
