Having grown up in California where there were frequent small quakes, I knew what this was immediately. However, it had a different character than others I've experienced. This was as though someone had 'snapped' a giant rope just under the ground. It went through our house in a distinct direction and ended with a loud SNAP or BANG. It woke my husband and I up. My neighbor was soon at the door, reporting that it woke her as well and made her mirror bounce again and again against the wall, and she heard the BANG as well. We are located just adjacent to the village of Turre, near Mojacar on the coast of the Med.
