There was no shaking from side to side, but a strong up-down tremble. Windows were shaking badly, too. The sound was like a distant explosion. My cat got really uoset.

Never felt an earthquake like this before,it firstly sounded like detonation and then the building started shaking, it lasted for a couple of seconds, I got up and started running towards the door then it stopped. Our dog was calm all the way. There was also a loss of power in the neighbourhood next to ours. If this was 3.1 by magnitude I just don't want to know how larger magnitudes are.
